Certified quality training for fun and sport on the water
The three major watersports associations, the German Motor Yacht Association (DMYV), the Association of German Sailing Schools (VDS) and the Association of German Watersports Schools (VDWS) have comprehensively reviewed, adapted and updated the guidelines of their quality criteria as part of the certification for quality training in watersports (QAW). Watersports and boating is one of the most enjoyable pastimes and adventures available to many people. But it doesn't matter if you have a boating license or less than 15 horsepower: It's only fun when you feel safe on the water and know what to do in difficult situations. Qualified training is the basis for this.
The range of training options available to watersports beginners can be confusing. The QAW seal of approval of the three major water sports associations DMYV, VDS and VDWS is intended to be a beacon to help you find a qualified training center. The applicant for a driver's license, a radio certificate, a sailing license, etc. is guided on a clear course to the goal of passing the exam as a qualified water sports enthusiast and should be able to safely navigate the shoals of the sport on the water.
The QAW certificate: a guarantee of quality and confidence
Since its introduction more than ten years ago, the QAW certificate has established itself as a mark of quality in watersports education. It offers watersports enthusiasts the assurance that certified schools have been inspected by the three major federations to ensure that they are up to date, that course content is relevant and that they comply with mandatory standards.
Major changes and goals of the new guidelines:
The revised guidelines ensure that the focus remains on the core objectives of the QAW certification:
- To improve the quality of training: The new standards promote uniform and transparent watersports training based on clearly defined, verifiable criteria.
- Consumer-friendliness and transparency: QAW-certified training centers are committed to publishing their quality criteria to enable consumers to make an informed choice.
- Market access for training centers: The QAW certification remains open to new schools and associations, provided they meet the defined quality standards and are successfully certified.
The revisions include updated requirements for school equipment, training equipment and training content. Special attention was given to the areas of equipment, training quality, training infrastructure and transparency in communication with consumers.
