Wingfoil Instructor X-Over
New for all VDWS Instructors: The X-Over Courses!
Are you already a VDWS Instructor and want to expand your skills to another sport? With the X-Over courses, you can easily earn a second, third, or even fourth license – quickly, affordably, and with minimal effort.
In short: X-Over courses make you more versatile and open up new opportunities in watersports – with less effort and cost!
Requirements for Course Participation
Practical Skills:

General Requirements:
- Safe wingfoiling in different spots with wind speeds of 10-30kn
- Safe entry and exit from the water
- Ability to sail upwind without difficulty
- Controlled stopping at a specific point

Special Maneuvers – Longboard (SUP or Windsurf board with centerboard, or similar):
- Toeside tack and jibe (from and to toeside)
- Toeside gybe and tack (from and to toeside)

Special Maneuvers – Foilboard:
- Foiled tack and gybe (from and to toeside)
- All maneuvers should be performed in foiling mode without touchdown
Important: The practical driving skills are crucial for the practical exam and possibly also for the teaching test.
Proof of Wingfoil Skills: You can prove your skills through the Level 5 VDWS Wingfoil Basic License or by submitting a video proof.
Theoretical Preparation: Teaching experience in wingfoiling is not required, but the following is necessary:
- Thorough study of the theory on the VDWS eLearning platform
- Completion of all work questions
- Passing a short, sport-specific final exam
Minimum Age: 16 years
Important: The required documentation (practical + theoretical) must be submitted no later than 2 weeks before the start of the course.
Requirements for License Completion
- Successful completion of the training course
- Passing the teaching exam
- Active VDWS membership
- Minimum Age: 18 years
Our courses focus on organizing and conducting beginner wingsurf and wingfoil lessons. The goal is to guide new wingfoilers professionally as they start in the sport and to deliver high-quality lessons efficiently.
Theory
The theoretical basics are taught in advance via the VDWS eLearning platform. During the course, these concepts are connected to practical applications and further explored.
Practice
You’ll learn how to professionally organize and conduct safe, structured wingsurf and wingfoil lessons for beginners.

Additional Expenses: Travel, accommodation, and equipment (if needed)
Pre-Course Requirements

Practical Skills Test:
- Option 1: Proof of Level 5 on the VDWS Wingfoil Basic License
- Option 2: Submission of a test video. The requirements for the video proof can be found in the exam protocol.

Theory:
- Complete the VDWS eLearning course, including all work questions.
- Pass the final theory tests.
On-Course Assessments
- Teaching Practice:
Demonstration of teaching ability through practical lessons with real students, combined with theoretical knowledge.
License Completion After the X-Over Course
The completion process is the same as for a regular course: Once you pass all exam components, you will receive the Level 1 License.
To obtain the Level 2 License, you will only need to complete an internship at a VDWS internship school.
Important:
If you are already a Level 2 Instructor and can provide proof of at least 6 months of practical experience at a VDWS school, the additional internship requirement is waived.
