Kitesurfing Instructor Training - Level 2 -

Congratulations!

You have successfully completed your VDWS Level 1 Kitesurf Instructor training – a great milestone! Now it's time to take the next step in your career.

As a Level 2 Instructor, you will not only be able to teach independently at all VDWS schools, but you will also be authorized to issue VDWS basic certificates and register them under your name.

To maintain the high training standards of VDWS worldwide, a practical internship at a specially qualified VDWS training school is required for the Level 2 certification. There, you will be trained by experienced instructors for hands-on work on the beach and learn what it takes to succeed in everyday teaching!

Requirements for the Internship:

  • VDWS Level 1 Kitesurf Instructor License
  • Proper registration of the internship at the VDWS head office (please use the registration form!)

Important:
The internship can only be completed at a VDWS-approved and accredited school! You can find a list of VDWS internship schools here – simply apply the filter "Internship Schools" in the search.

Requirements for Level 2 Certification:

  • Successful completion of the internship

  • Full submission of all required documents to the VDWS office:
    • Internship documents
    • Proof of First Aid course
    • Proof of DLRG Bronze or VDWS Rescue certificat

The internship focuses on gaining teaching experience and performing teaching activities, mainly under the supervision of an instructor. The goal is to experience the multifaceted nature of the profession as a watersports instructor. All progress and experiences will be documented in the VDWS internship logbook.

Duration:

  • At least 100 hours (approximately 21 days)

Location:

  • VDWS-accredited internship school

Contents:

  • Analysis of Teaching Units:

    • Examining the characteristics of training areas, local conditions, wind and climate conditions, water and shore characteristics, as well as the equipment and facilities of the school.
  • Own Teaching Practice:

    • Planning, conducting, and reflecting on teaching attempts in consultation with the supervising instructor, considering the previously analyzed conditions.
  • Support in School Operations:

    • Taking on tasks such as office work, repairs, rescue operations, and assisting in the rental operation.
  • Guest Support at Events:

    • Assisting with events such as travel events, test weeks, or other activities at the internship school.
  • Working with the VDWS Licensing System:

    • Preparing and evaluating exams
    • Issuing basic icenses and registering them in the VDWS checkpoint
  • First Aid Certificate:

    • Not older than 2 years
    • Duration: At least 8 hours or 9 teaching units (UE)

  • VDWS Rescue, DLRG Bronze Lifeguard or a comparable certificate

Our instructor licenses are valid for three years from the year of the course and must be renewed thereafter. The easiest way to renew is by attending a one-day training seminar. This is free for VDWS members, and the license will be extended for another three years. Alternatively, the license can also be renewed by participating in any other event we offer.

Important:

  • The choice of internship placement is the responsibility of the applicant. It is recommended to contact the school and the responsible instructor early on.
  • Agreements regarding working hours, compensation, and other benefits are made directly between the intern and the watersports school. A fair compensation for the internship period must be ensured.

Notes on Special Regulations:

  • When obtaining a second instructor license, an additional internship is waived if at least 6 months of professional experience with the first license can be proven.

  • VDWS Watersports Assistants:
    • If the internship is completed at the same training school, the duration can be reduced by up to 50% (to 50 hours).
    • If the internship is done at another school, the duration can be reduced by 20% (to 80 hours).
