Windsurf Instructor X-Over Course

A novelty for all trained VDWS watersport instructors!

You already have a VDWS license and would like to use your experience and motivation as a VDWS instructor in another sport? Then you can easily qualify for a second, third or fourth instructor license in another sport with our X-Over courses from 2024.

In short: X-Over courses enable VDWS instructors to continue their training and "broaden their horizons" by qualifying for additional VDWS licenses - at a lower price and less time-consuming.

For the course:

  • The exam-relevant 40 m skills (see practice video) as well as the basic manoeuvres (get on going, tacking, jibing, safety sailing, tacking) on the longboard, must be mastered safely up to a wind speed of 25 knots (approx. 6 Bft.) as PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS.
  • Teaching experience is not necessary, but thorough study of the theory on the VDWS E-Learning platform, as well as answering the working questions there.

To complete the VDWS Windsurf Instructor Level 1 licence:

  • Completion of the instructor course
  • Passing the practical and theoretical exams as well as the teaching exam.
  • VDWS Membership
  • Passport photo
  • Minimum age: 16 years

Theoretical contents:
Lesson planning, methods of teaching, school/lesson organisation, emergency situations, safety, physical basics, meteorology, job description of water sports instructors, services

Practical contents:
Training for teaching practice, training exercises with beginners, practical theory training, school organisation

Duration: 6 days

Price: 600 €

Extra Costs: travel expenses, accomodation, equipment

Practice I (8-25 Knots)
Board control skills, 40 m half wind. 4 out of 5 must be passed (snake line, clew first, leeride, fin first, helicopter/sail-360°).
Here is a demo video of the exam.

Practice II
The test covers the demonstration of the beginner techniques from up sail through get on going, steering, tacking to the jibe.

Teaching exam
Teaching ability in connection with theoretical knowledge.

Theoretical exam
The written examination with questions on theoretical, practical and methodical training will take 90 minutes.

The license completion after an X-Over course is identical to that of a regular course: If you pass all parts of the Level 1 exam, all you need for your Level 2 license is an internship at a VDWS school.

Note: If you are already a Level 2 instructor and can prove that you have at least 6 months of practical experience at a VDWS school, an additional internship is not necessary.
