VDWS Wingfoiling Beginner

Introduction

All trainees get a personal Wingsurfing licence from their instructor. This card (with its specific licence number) aims to be a permanent companion and, by this, illustrates one's VDWS Wing-apprenticeship for the rental of equipment and vis-à-vis local authorities.
Every passed level will be confirmed and recorded by a corresponding sticker on the Wingsurfing licence-card.
The level system includes 7 levels. For the classic basic licence however, you need to complete only level 1.

Tips for newbies

Whether windsurfer, kitesurfer, or stand up paddler - wingboarding unites water sports enthusiasts from the most diverse areas. For those who want to start with wingsurfing without any previous experience, the courses are similar to classic windsurfing beginner courses. In wingsurfing, too, the first thing is to be able to control the wing and keep your balance on a board that is still relatively large at this point. In fact, for the first few hours of a course, windsurfing beginner boards are excellent for getting familiar with the wing, steering and orientation on the water. In our schools, wingsurf beginner courses are therefore often offered in parallel with windsurf beginner courses, as the learning path is almost identical. Once the first hurdles have been successfully overcome at the end of this course, the whole world of possibilities is open to a wingsurfer.

Training Content of the Basic Licence

Theory

Materials science, sailing theory, legal requirements, meteorology, behavior in nature and the environment, behavior during emergencies and in bad weather, safety measures, and safety equipment.

The Levels 2–7 shown on the Wingboarding license document your learning progress and serve as a roadmap to becoming an experienced wingfoiler. They are not required to obtain the Basic License but can be earned gradually over time.

Practical content

Assembly and disassembly, longboard: Wing transport and storage, starting position, getting underway, steering, 180-degree turn, jibe or tack, emergency stop, tacking, how to handle special situations.

Nature Conservation

Inland lakes and coastal waters are increasingly being used by water sports enthusiasts to practice their sports. In doing so, they often venture—in their sometimes shallow watercraft—into areas that were previously undisturbed nesting and resting sites for many bird species that have become rare. This has led to conflicts between nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts in many places. Therefore, be sure to familiarize yourself with the applicable rules.
