Overview of the licenses

 

Watersport assistant
Schooling at a VDWS-school entitled to host internships
Duration: 2-8 weeks.

This qualification represents a pointed preparation for the instructor courses "windsurfing, kitesurfing, catamaran or dinghy sailing" and it can be completed at any VDWS-school entitled to host internships. Main contents of the qualification: the school's organization and rental, its safety concept, customer contact and sales talk, service, basic knowledge of equipment, maintenance and repair, assistance during a beginner course.

This additional grade is not required for any further participation in VDWS instructor courses.

Prerequisites for the acquisition of the license I, II, III or IV are:
Proof of being able to run a motorboat (no motorboat licence), first-aid certificate (8 double periods), swimming certificate (German DLRG-Bronze or equivalent.

I Windsurf Instructor
Covers practical skills, specific theory and methods
Duration: 8 days.
The holder of this licence is entitled to train and to examine for the VDWS windsurfing basic licence. The licence is valid for 3 years and has to be renewed by a further education workshop.

II Kitesurf Instructor
Covers practical skills, specific theory and methods
Duration: 8 days.
The holder of this licence is entitled to train and to examine for the VDWS kiteboarding basic licence. The licence is valid for 3 years and has to be renewed by a further education workshop.

III Cat Instructor
Covers practical skills, specific theory and methods
Duration: 8 days.
The holder of this licence is entitled to train and to examine for the VDWS catamaran basic licence. The licence is valid for 3 years and has to be renewed by a further education workshop.

IV Sailing Instructor
Covers practical skills, specific theory and methods
Duration: 8 days.
The holder of this licence is entitled to train and to examine for the VDWS sailing basic licence. The licence is valid for 3 years and has to be renewed by a further education workshop.

VDWS Instructor-Trainee
Participants of an instructor course who pass at least their demonstration lesson receive the status of VDWS instructor candidate and are allowed to complete their internship at an entitled school. They are entitled to teach, but not yet to examine. The grade of "instructor candidate" will be replaced by "instructor" when all examination parts are passed, the internship is completed and all documents are handed in.

Practical
100 hours of internship at an entitled VDWS school. With the successful completion of the internship, the respective instructor licence is issued.

Participants of an instructor course who pass at least their demonstration lesson receive the status of VDWS instructor candidate and are allowed to complete their internship. The internship can only be done at a national or international VDWS recognized watersportschool, entitled to host internships. The VDWS table of schools prevails. Only holders of the VDWS internship licence who have attended the VDWS duty of further education can be in charge of the interns.

The internship should primarily be composed of instructor activities, under a trainer's supervision. It should cover at least 21 days and a 100 working hours. The instructor-trainee must keep a record of the contents and the duration of the internship, the corresponding documents are distributed at the end of the instructor course. The record also certifies the completion of the internship. Before awarding the licence, the instructor candidate's responsible supervisor's opinion will also be taken into account.

In case a second instructor licence is acquired, a second internship can be omitted if at least six months of professional experience under the first licence can be proven. During the internship, a fair remuneration is to be paid to the intern. As to VDWS watersport assistants who complete their internship at the same supervising school, the duration of the internship can be reduced by 50% (50 working hours instead of a 100). If the internship is completed at another school, its duration can be reduced by 20%. (80 working hours instead of a 100).

V Internship-Licence
Holders of this licence are entitled to accompany and to train interns, to check internship records and to conduct the internship. The internship licence is assigned if the instructor has successfully taken part in a further education seminar covering the topic "internship" or the school management seminar and he has more then 2 years experience.

Funboardtrainer
Duration: at least 6 days covering 40 teaching hours
In order to obtain the funboard trainer licence, the participation in a workshop of "Teaching of advanced maneuvers" is required. The 6-day seminar ends with an examination. This examination is not mandatory. Participants who pass the examination complete the funboard trainer workshop with "successful participation". Participation will be certified to those who did not take part in the examination or those who did not pass.

School management
Duration: school management workshop of at least 3 days The school management licence entitles to register and to manage an independent VDWS watersport school and to obtain VDWS basic licences and teaching aids.

Master Instructor Licence
In order to get a VDWS Master Instructor Licence, a second instructor qualification in a different discipline, an internship-licence and the participation in a further education seminar are required. Ensuing, the "master-instructor" is valid for 3 years. Those who do not attend their duty of further education will be downgraded to the instructor level.
